To celebrate Youth Month, Absa teamed up with Johannesburg’s ultimate crew, Vault Strength Club (VSC), to turn up the volume on wellness, connection, and youth entrepreneurship.

This mashup is all part of Absa’s love for active lifestyles, but this time they went way beyond just breaking a sweat to champion big, purpose-led ambitions.

The real stars of the show? South Africa’s vibrant young entrepreneurs, small business owners, and rising changemakers. The event put a bright spotlight on the true stories, big dreams, and unstoppable grit driving the next generation, proving this was so much more than a social run; it was a full-on celebration of youth power and real-world impact.

Everyone dove into a high-energy experience where fitness met pure culture. The lineup featured a dynamic guided warm-up, live tracks, networking zones, tasty refreshments, games, and an interactive Absa activation – all packed around a 3-5km social run through the streets of Sandton. To wrap it all up, runners cooled down and kept the good vibes rolling at an exclusive Coffee Rave hosted by none other than YFM’s own Ayanda MVP.

One of the participants, Truedy Khuzwayo, spoke to Afrique Folk about the experience:

AF: Running and fitness events happen all over Johannesburg. What was it about Vault Strength Club’s activation with Absa that made you say, “I have to be there”?

Truedy: Apart from always coming to VSC® for the usual Saturday runs, I know their brand collaborations are always on point. Seeing that this one was with Absa I knew it was going to be a vibe.

AF: How important is it for you to have a fitness space that feels less like a strict workout regime and more like a supportive, vibrant social community?

Truedy: On a scale of 1 to 10, I’d give it a 10. It fits perfectly into my lifestyle because it balances fitness and socialising. It combines training with spending quality time with friends, which makes it even more enjoyable

What was your favourite element of the activation, and how did those extra touches change the experience for you?

Truedy: It’s always nice getting a sweet treat at the end of a run, so I really enjoyed the complimentary snacks and coffee after the run. The music was also great and added to the overall atmosphere.

AF: If you had to describe the vibe of the event in just three words to someone who missed it, which words would you choose?

Truedy: Safe. Fun. Cool.

AF: Women’s safety and comfort in public fitness spaces are important. How did VSC and Absa ensure this activation felt like a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment for female runners and fitness enthusiasts?

Truedy: VSC® is always conscious of the fact that women can be vulnerable in public spaces, and they cultivate a strong sense of community where everyone looks out for one another, especially women. There are leaders and sweepers on every route, and they make sure that no one gets left behind, which always makes me feel safe and included.

AF: Since the activation, what is the main thought or feeling you’re carrying into the rest of the year?

Truedy: I’m leaving with the reminder that your story matters, and that we can do hard things together through strength in numbers. Open the Vault!

By joining forces, Absa proved once again that they’re all about backing youth ambition, boosting the entrepreneurial scene, and creating unforgettable spaces where communities can connect, thrive, and move forward together!
